Same-Store Sales (Comp Sales)
What is Same-Store Sales (Comp Sales) in franchising?
A metric comparing revenue at franchise locations that have been open for at least one year, measured year-over-year. Also called comp sales, this strips out the growth effect of new store openings to reveal whether existing locations are growing or shrinking organically. Consistently positive same-store sales growth signals a healthy franchise system with strong consumer demand. Declining comps across a system is a red flag that should prompt deeper investigation during due diligence.
